Welcome To MADS

MADS was founded in 1922 in the beautiful Staffordshire village of Marchington, by the wife of the parish vicar. It made its public debut with a pantomime, and has since gone on to stage productions from every theatrical genre, including musicals, drama, comedy, dance and pantomime.

We aim to perform two productions a year, and are involved in the annual Marchington VillageFestival in June, entertaining packed audiences in the marquee with anything from hilarious sketches and songs to poetry readings and whacky dance routines! MADS members enjoy a fun, active and varied social programme all year round, the highlight of which is arguably the annual Progressive Supper. MADS is a member of N.O.D.A. (National Operatic and Dramatic Association). We adhere to their guidelines on child protection, health and safety to ensure the wellbeing and happiness of our members. MADS production of Oliver! the Musical

Planning is now well under way for our upcoming production of Oliver! the Musical. We would love  you to get involved. We are hoping to engage a large cast of adults and young people, and hope to attract some new members in the process to join our existing team. This is MADS Centenary year so we want this to be a truly special event!

If you would like to take part in the show, we’d love to have you on board! There is no need for prior experience on the stage or a wonderful singing voice; you just need enthusiasm and commitment to rehearsals. These will be on Tuesday evenings for the adult ensemble and Thursday evenings for the youth ensemble, commencing Tuesday August 30th. There will be some rehearsals that you won’t need to attend and a rehearsal schedule will be issued. There will be 4 evening performances on 23rd – 26th November.

There are some great lead roles with well-loved songs and we will audition for these during the week commencing August 22nd. These won’t be scary auditions, but rather a chance to match voices to characters/songs.

If you don’t fancy taking part but would still like to be involved, we need a large team to help with props, scenery, set design and manufacture, costumes, make-up, back-stage crew, a stage manager, and front of house. If you are able to help we would be delighted!

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to be involved, and in what capacity, and whether you would like to audition for a lead role. Please also circulate this message to anyone you know who may want to join us.

I look forward to hearing from you!
